The Driver's Seat

by TommyTwoToes
poker player

Ever let someone else drive your ride while you are not drunk and are sitting in the front passenger seat? It feels weird doesn't it?

Well this weekend I did that, I let someone else drive my Truck. You feel a little helpless, and no longer in control. The only other time I can recall letting someone else drive my truck was not a pleasant one, my dad drove for a while and well he almost killed us. A Chevy 2500 4x4 Crew Cab with a diesel engine doesn't handle like a Porsche. But luckily for us this trip was a lot smoother of a ride, and there were no incidents.

It did give me time to relax and think to myself a little, while being chauffeured around. Cause I am a poker junkie I could not help but open the Bluff magazine sitting on my dash and read a few articles, which in turn got me thinking about my online poker game. I feel like my online game has spiraled out of control in the last month, basically it's a car wreck, I don't know if it is just a bad run of cards or me misplaying everything under the sun. And with a little mismanagement of bankroll it can turn into a nightmare. But there is no doubt that it is out of control, and I need to get back in the drivers seat and take over.

To accomplish that I like many before me and lots after me, make a pledge and or promise to themselves to get back to basics. Do the simple things right and all else will follow in stride. Brandon (Nekosohana on the forums) has recently offered to start writing a series of poker articles with the basics in mind. And well even for someone like me who has played a plethora of hands I am hoping that I can learn a few things or gain a different perspective and get back on track.

I could make some dumb analogy about how your poker career is better being like a big truck than a Porsche but in all honesty there are benefits to each vehicle, and a lot of those benefits depend on the driver. The most important thing is that you are in control and making rational decisions to avoid a wreck.
