... Oh yes it's the coveted prize for the biggest loser. Why is there not a bad beat jackpot in regular life? I think I should qualify. Ok not really but hey I want to be a winner for something even if it is for being a loser.
I once again have fallen victim to the layoff and outsourcing machine in America... granted I am not suppose to know about it etc, and it may not happen till later this year if at all but it is still aggravating to have to start looking for another job yet again. This job really was like a bad beat. It started out looking like a great hand that you would play in poker Aces full of jacks on the flop. You're holding AA in your hot little hand thinking the sucker that is betting into me will never know what hit him. Then Bam the showdown after the all in and that chump is holding pocket jacks for 4 of a kind. Isn't that a bitch? So where is my bad beat jackpot? No seriously, where are the balloons falling from the ceiling and the manager of the poker room walking over to hand me my jackpot winnings? But alas none of that will happen as this is the real world. And the only "jackpot" I might or might not get is what the corporate people call a "severance package".
One more time I have to put on a happy smile and go out into the interview scene convincing HR and the barrage of head hunters that I have what it takes before I even make it to the final table known as the technical interview or interview with the actual manager. Finding a job is like a poker tournament in that you play your cards right you might be chosen to be one of the special ten people out of thousands that interview with some company for a job that might not be there in 6 months. Sort of like after you win a big tournament maybe all that money is lost in 6 months, and you are back to square one entering into yet another employment tournament hoping to make it to the final table and come out as number one. The tournament is filled with check-raises and traps and specialized questions that are all there to deceive you and to play with your mind. If you commit too much to one hand you might get knocked out and go home with nothing. Bluffing is often a big part of this tournament as the people on the other side of the table are always looking for someone that is confident and sure of themselves. And sometimes you just got to have the nuts when they call your bet.
Well I for one am sick of the corporate world shitting on the little man. Is it to much to ask to get a job that pays decent and in which I don't have to worry about the future? You're right it probably is asking too much. But I guess I can't give up hope. You have to keep playing your cards right and you wont need the bad beat jackpot because you will have already won enough that the jackpot won't matter.
