The World Cup of Poker on CBS!

posted by Nekosohana

The news article can be found here.

For a while people have been talking about how this "poker fad" will fall apart. But the major networks are going to continue monopolizing on it. Today marked the beginning of the "World Cup of Poker".

The brainchild of Henry Orenstein, the guy who invented the "hole card cam" that revolutionized poker, has redisigned the somewhat failed attempts to popularize international poker. Named the Intercontinental Poker Championship.

Much like famous poker tournaments in Dallas, the Intercontinental is a series of tournaments where the players recieve points for their finishes. According to Orenstein, this will diminish the value of "luck" involved in a single freeze-out tournament, providing the best long term player the crown in the end.
