I have been really busy lately and my blog has suffered. I will try and get back on course this week and post every couple of days, with that said, I played in the DSOP this last Friday night.
I got a pretty good table draw, mostly tight aggressive players. The first 4 hands I got were 22,33,KK and AKs, WOW right, nope. I was actually down a few hundred after those hands. After that I pretty much was cold decked until the second break. I was sitting on the button with 3900 in chips and UTG declares all in for 3800. Everyone folds and I say to myself AA or KK or I will fold. I look down and find two big old cowboys and move all in. Everyone else folds and the guy says, "I hope I can win this race" and flips over 33. I turn over the cowpokes, and he realized the trouble he was in. My hand holds up and I am off to the races. The antes kicked in and I decided I was going to get aggressive during this round. I picked up QQ and won another nice pot. I picked up TT and hit a set for another nice victory, the I proceeded to steal some pots. I build up a really large stack and was leader at my table.
A couple of hands I would like to discuss. I picked up TT UTG+1 and the UTG raised 4BB. This was his standard raise for AA, KK, QQ, JJ, AK and AQ, other than that he usually limped. I looked down and saw TT, after consideration I folded figuring I was behind. This was a mistake, I easily had him covered and should see a flop with that hand. As it turned out I would have hit a boat on the flop, and Action Greg hit trips, those would have been alot of chips for me because Action was doing rather well at this point.
A few hands later everyone folded to the SB and he limped. I lookd down at J2 and almost raised, I had done that the last two times he limped at me but something was up. The flop came K24 rainbow. The blinds at this point were 1400, 700 with 100 antes. He checks and I bet 4000 into the pot, a small over bet but I figured he missed and I wanted to protect me bottom pair, which might not be good by the end and the size of the bet was also 2/3's of his stack. Well he check raised me all in. I had to call 2700 more. So I went into the tank, not really, I just need to figure the math out. There was 3100 preflop + 4000 I bet and 6700 he bet. That totals 13800 and I had to call 2700 more, 5 to 1 and I have bottom pair. I call and he turns over AJ and I bust him out of the pot. I think this was bad play on his part and will open it up for discussion on the forums and see what you all think.
We gathered for the final table and I was probably 3rd or 4th in chips. I was really lucky, I had played with 6 of the 10 people at the final table. I had reads on almost everyone, there were only 3 guys that were unknowns. With my chip stack and reads I figured I would make it high into the money, but all that didnt matter much I went card dead and folded every hand because there was alot of action preflop on every hand. With the blinds and antes eating away, you needed to catch some cards. On the bubble I was 5th in chip and had the SS out chiped but a few thousand. Then the worst thing could have happened. The SS was allin during his BB and they let him walk, He barely covered the BB. Those guys with all those chips and no one called. Let this be a lesson and I hope none of you guys do this, the blinds at this point were 2000/4000 and 200 antes. Preflop there was 7200 in the pot and the SB was getting over 3 to 1 on his money and he folded. Bad, Bad poker in my book. I thought for sure I was going to bust out on the bubble I looked at his chips and figured I could fold the next orbit and he would be all in during his next blind and of course lady luck was on my side, because we he was all in the Button picked up AA and busted him out. I finished 5th for last place in the money. Not too bad.
