Always check it down...

Always check it down...

I'm playing a $5 6-man SNG on UltimateBet, one person has already been knocked out. One of the players was being idle, so he's not worth mentioning at this point. I'm in the chip lead with 3000 after taking a decent stack off SmartPlayer with a flush on the turn I got to see for cheap against his straight.

That leaves Me, SmartPlayer, DyingPlayer, and DumbPlayer.

I call him DumbPlayer because he took a bunch of DyingPlayer's money, but has been consistently entering into hands with SmartPlayer (who only had 500 chips after my hand against him), and then getting scared when SmartPlayer goes all-in on the turn. Since SmartPlayer is pretty good (I consider my hand against him just lucky) I obviously don't want him to build his stack. I commented on it a few times in the channel, following the "trash talk to put them on tilt" strategy. Saying stuff like "why don't you just transfer your chips to him?" etc.

So by this point, DumbPlayer is at 1200 chips, and DyingPlayer is around 400. Neither player is particularly aggressive, blinds are 20-40.

I get dealt KJo in the big blind. (lol filmaff hand)

DumbPlayer calls
DyingPlayer goes all-in for 400
IdlePlayer folds
SmartPlayer folds his SB
I call the all-in.
DumbPlayer also calls the all-in.

Flop comes AQT rainbow, woohoo straight on the flop.

I check. I explain why in a second...
DumbPlayer goes all-in for 800 more.

At this point I really just have pity for him... I'm a strong believer in the "check it down" philosophy, which is the point of this post. There's nothing worse than seeing a player get a second wind because the other asshat in the hand with you doesn't understand how to clear a seat.

Seeing as how I'm frustrated and tired... I type "...always check it down, now I have to take all your money" and call.

There's no more drama. My straight holds up (he had an ace) and I end up riding out my chip lead to 1st place. I'd like to think that I would have made the awesome poker pro move and put him all-in even if he [i:a4b987d5c8]had[/i:a4b987d5c8] checked it down... but somewhere deep down I'm just not that guy.
