NL vs. Limit
i've been opposed to limit poker for a long time. mostly because the amount of sucking out that goes on. this may because of the stakes that i had played (3/6, 4/8). i generally prefer NL, but lately i've been getting frustrated. it seems like more times than not, when i catch someone pushing their chips in on a weak hand or bluff and i make a good call, they'll catch one of the 2 remaining cards in the deck that will save them.
now i know that's the way the game goes sometimes. but it frustrates me to build my stack up only to loose a large chunk of it someone who got lucky after i caught them on a big bluff.
my point is this (sorry it took so long). poker is supplemental income to me, effectively a part time job. so i've been looking for a way to capitalize on my abilities while limiting the losses i take at the hands of some lucky dipshit.
so i started playing 5/10 limit recently. and the first day that i did, i had an epiphany if you will. i came up with different strategy for playing limit as it is certainly a different game than NL. the first day i played, i beat the 5/10 game for about $600 in 3 hours. obviously this is much more than i can expect to make on a regular basis. but since i've implemented this new strategy, i am consistantly making about $50-70 an hour at the 5/10 game.
it seems that there is a big difference in the willingness of people to call with marginal hands or draws in the 5/10 even compared to the 4/8.
i'm wondering if there will be that big of a difference if i move up to the 10/20 game.
finally it comes down to this. do you think there is more opportunity to make a profitable consistant income in the limit game or the NL? do you think i would notice similar changes in play if i were to move up in the NL game? i have played 2/4, 3/6, and 4/8 NL...but very little and i've only played those stakes online. (i do not like to play online, by the way. i only do it because of the convenience factor)
anyway, i would love to hear any comments, questions or opinions on this ridiculous ramble. thanks for listening. |
