from a dealer's perspective
just wanted to offer up a couple of thoughts to you. i'm sure most, if not all of you have played in cardrooms or casino's where you've had the benefit of a dealer to handle all the action for you. so i just wanted to offer up a couple of thoughts to you from the perspective of a dealer.
1. asking for a deck change WILL NOT help you win.
2. asking for a wash WILL NOT help you win.
3. if you happen to get the same cards two hands in a row, don't ask "did you shuffle these". you watched him shuffle them. you watched him cut them. it was just coincidence. that happens sometimes. you wouldn't be asking stupid questions like that if you got rockets two hands in a row.
4. changing seats at the table WILL NOT help you win. unless of course you're gaining the benefit of position on a particular player. but the sit itself has no bearing on you winning.
5. if you are a tight player and choose to play only top 10 hands, understand that you won't be playing very much. don't throw a fit when you have to wait 10 hands to see a flop.
6 if you choose to play only top 10 hands, don't throw a fit when you don't flop the nuts on every flop you see.
7. if you to play super tight and only bet once every 50 hands, don't be pissed when you get no action when you come out firing at the pot. you are the easiest person in poker to play against.
8. again, if you are super tight. don't complain when the action player fires out at the pot after the whole table checks around to him. "he's buying it. he doesn't have shit" well neither do you. if your hand is so much better, why aren't you calling. or if you you had fired at the pot first you might be stacking chips instead of bitching. either way, quit complaining. poker is less about the cards than you might think.
9. DEALERS WORK ON TIPS. and only tips. don't be so damn stingy. you'll tip 20% at a restaurant when you spend $50, why can't you toss the dealer a lousy white when you make $50. now if all you picked up was a couple of blinds, i don't expect you to tip the dealer. (in fact, in many cases i'll toss the tip back to the player if they do) but if you're dragging 2 or 3 $80 pots in a row and you don't bother to toss a single chip to your dealer, you're not greedy or stingy....you're just an ass.
10. "why should i tip, they're already taking a rake". look, the house and the dealer are two separate entities. one, the rake is part of the game. the house is providing you with chips, tables, a dealer, a place to play, and in most cases free alcohol, drinks and food. and you knew that when you walked in the door. if you don't like it, why do you come.
11. tipping is applicable in tournaments too. if you cash, i won't hurt you to give a little to the dealers. now if break even in tourny or just make $20 or $40. the dealer doesn't expect anything from you. but if you just netted $500, think about them guys that just spent the last few hours tossing the cards around the table.
12. do not throw temper tantrums at the table because you lost or your not getting the cards you want. NOBODY likes this and it only make you look ass. grow up.
13. last but certainly not least. THE DEALER DOES NOT CONTROL WHAT CARDS COME OUT. whether it be your hole cards or what's on the board. now i personally want to see the person who played the hand right to take down the pot. but the dealer cannot dictate what cards are going to fall. he is not a mechanic. and if you thought he was, why are you sitting at that table to begin with.
enough for now. |
