Re: High Rake on big buy in tourneys?

Re: High Rake on big buy in tourneys?

The rake % decreases as the buy-in goes up, but not in proportion to the buy-in....so it goes up in actual dollars

In the $50,000 HORSE tournament at the WSOP, the "rake" was $2,000. For 143 players this means Harrah's took in $286,000 for a tournament that tied up 18 tables or less for 3 days, and probably took a total of 300 man-hours of labor (generates $953 per hour of employee time). On top of that, most of the labor (dealers) are paid very little, and likely were tipped 2-5% of the prize pool by the players finishing in the money.

It's enough money to make someone want to run tournaments for a living. On the other hand I get paid for doing pretty much nothing now, so why bother.
