What to do if the bettor mucks after you call on the river?

What to do if the bettor mucks after you call on the river?

I saw this a lot over the weekend, at the Winstar, and was wanting some opinions....

Here's the scenerio...
On the river, one guy makes a big overbet (or pot size bet),
and (after some thought) the other guy calls.
As soon as the other guy calls, the origional better throws his cards into the muck.

I know the better is supposed to show his hand first, and the caller basically has called so he is given the right to see the better's hand.
But what can you do in this scenerio?

A few times I was the origional caller, but other times I was not.
I tried asking to see his cards (sometimes) but this seems to be inappropriate to have to do this each time.
And sometimes, the cards can't be retrieved (as they went deep into the muck) so there's no way to retrieve them and see what he had.

I think, as the caller, I have a right to see his cards.
I even think as one of the people at the table (not the caller), we should all be able to see the origional better's cards.

But. Asking to see the cards seems to piss people off.
And I really shouldn't have to do this!

What do you do if this consistantly happens over and over by several players at the table?

Has anyone had (or seen) this issue, and what did you do about it?

Thanks.
