Performance Enhancing Elements
So we were having a discussion last night, and I was curious about the opinion of performance enhancing elements in the poker table.
The discussion sprang from a talk we had where I mentioned that I had tried Adderall from a friend before. I was up working extremely hard from about 10 hours straight. It was particularly impressive. So I was curious, although I have never used it at a poker table, I have no doubt that the effect on me personally would create an improvement in my play.
But as I look at it, since we are really competing for money...is using addreall something similar to blood doping? These guys are training for weeks in the altitude and then putting their own blood back in their body. While personally I am not a fan of needles and probably wouldn't feel greaet about putting old blood back in me, the effect on serious athelets is unquestionable. And since it's their own blood, it's not as though they are drugging up to win, everything they are doing is theoretically "natural".
Does using a medication to cure ADD (which I may actually have...) constitute the same thing as a normal athelete, if it enhances the skills required to succeed in the poker table? (Yes I'm not an athelete, I'm arguing the "competetive" element here, not the "sport" status of poker)
Again, never tried it at a poker table, just asking the theoretical question. |
