Nightmare Hands
Scribe’s last hand that he posted got me thinking about misplayed hands that I’ll always remember. So here is the one hand that I will remember until the day I die.
About 5 years ago I was playing the 5/10 NL at the Motor City casino in Detroit. (I used to live in Ann Arbor) Anyway I didn’t have much live playing experience at the time and was WAY overconfident in my game back them, but I was a semi-regular at the 5/10 NL game there.
So I’ve just sat down with 1K in front of me, I know about half of the players at the table. The 1st hand I’m dealt is pocket 7s UTG+1. I make it $50 to go. It folds around to this younger (pretty hot) lady I’ve never seen before. She has around $2500 in front of her and she makes it $150. I call.
Flop is A 8 3 rainbow. I check, she makes a wimpy bet of $75. I instantly reraise to $300.
She stands up, starts muttering, hems and haws. Then she says, “Well I guess you’ve got the aces.” And then throws her hand face up on the table, pocket kings.
Being overconfident and inexperienced at the time I do the stupidest thing ever. I say, “Nope, just sevens.” And turn my cards up and start to reach for the chips. That’s when she says, “All in.”
I look at the dealer, he doesn’t move an inch. I say she mucked her cards, he calls the floor over. I’m pretty hot now, they go over it, but (correctly) tell me her cards never touched the muck. “You can call if you want” I muck.
Turns out she had done the exact same thing to some other dumbass about 45 mins before I got there with exactly the same result.
I then proceed to go on super-tilt and dump off the rest of my chips in about 20 mins. It was a good lesson that cost me a grand. But I will never forget that hand and it pisses me off to this day.
I’m sure all of you have a nightmare hand or two that you’ll never forget so let’s hear ‘em.
