Online companies and the WSOP

Online companies and the WSOP

I understand how business works. I'm a small business owner, and I fully know that if I was given the opportunity to put my name/logo out there in front of the Dallas TV, let alone the national media, I would jump at the chance. So, I understand why the online gaming companies and energy drink companies, etc. decorate these poker players like they are Nascar cars.

However, does it bother anyone else besides me, that FullTilt 'outfitted' Jerry Yang for the final table......even though, he admits that he has never played a hand of online poker? YES, I know why both parties did it....FullTilt gets the exposure, and Yang got some money for doing it. It just seems funny to me.

If you go to the FullTilt site, there is a banner ad congratulating Jerry Yang, and he's in his FT hat. Funny. And, the same is done on the PokerStars site for Tuan Lam. Lam apparently does play on PS, but he bought directly into the ME.

I wonder what kind of money switches hands to do this. I'm sure Harrah's and ESPN rake in some money, as well as the player. And, then the online sites get their advertising. But, I wonder what the figures are. Did Yang receive $10K....or more or less?
