Liking poker again
Well, I've been burnt out for a long while on poker. Since about the beginning of summer. This weekend I played at toddmcgrath's TOC tourney for a poker league that he runs. His TOC is a great event, IMO. We had 26 players and we started with 20K/chips. Slow progression, and 30min levels (or maybe it was 40min).
I did what everyone hates to do...played for 9hrs, only to get knocked out in 7th, when top 5 play. It was a $100 buyin, and first was for over $1K. Even though I was pissed about playing all day, only to get bumped, I think I got the poker bug back.
The hand that knocked me out. Blinds are 2000/4000 A: 500. I'm in BB. Raise in mid-position to 10K straight from a player that I would categorize as a particular type of animal that is used for labor out on the farm. It folds to me, and I look down at A  K  .
I'm all-in for 35K total. So, it's 25K more for him to call, and he probably has about 40-50K left. We're down to 7 players. He insta-calls, so I'm pretty sure he has a pair. Oh well.
Nope, he tables QJoffsuit. Of course, he hits a J on flop, then a Q on river, and I'm done.
I was pretty pissed that he would call with that, considering his stack and the size of the bet, and the fallout if my hand holds up. BUT, even with that said, I think I've rediscovered the poker bug. I will be announcing the next DSOP event sometime this week. Looking forward to it. |
