Bad Beat Jackpot.....almost
So, this past weekend I was in New Orleans for the BCS game. I played at Harrahs on Saturday and Sunday night. Just some drunken $1/2NL. On Saturday, I managed to walk out with an extra $125, and on Sunday, I walked out down about $125. But, it was a fun way to pass the time.
Anyhow, on Sunday, a crazy hand took place. For this hand, I was in the BB. I was holding 2 :club: 3 :spade: .
UTG raises it up to $6......Whoa! Watch out!
Two other early position players call the $6 raise.
The player on the Button also calls. The SB folds, and I decide to call and see if I can flop a monster.
Flop: Q  J  10 :spade:
I check.
Preflop raiser bets $10.
Next player re-raises to $30.
Next player smooth calls the $30.
The player on the button moves allin, for about $120 total.
I push for $400....just kidding. I fold.
The player UTG starts hemming and hawing. "I can't believe I'm going to lay this down", etc. Finally, he mucks his hand and leans to me and says "I'm folding aces." To which I reply, "as you should".
2nd position player takes no time and moves all-in over the top, for about $200 total (including his initial bet of $30).
3rd position player says "there's too much in there for me to back out now", and calls the $200 bet.
UTG shows: A :club: K :spade: Flopped Straight
Player 2 shows: 4  6  Flush draw....with monster 6-high
Button shows: J :club: J :diamond: Flopped Set
Turn: J :spade: Quads, bitches!
River: A  Flush, bitches!
Quads wins main pot. Flush wins side pot. Guy who flopped nut straight has to rebuy. Guy who had Pocket Aces preflop........misses out on his share of $20,000 Bad Beat Jackpot.
He made the right call, but he also didn't know about the jackpot. So, the dealer begins to tell him about it, and won't let it go. It looks like this guy is going to throw up on me. He's sick to his stomach. And, the dealer won't shut up about it. Two hands later, he leaves.
If he plays that hand like most of the other idiots in that room, he would have stayed in the hand...."hell, I have aces...beat that!". But, he did the correct thing. The breakdown would have been:
$10,000 to loser
$5,000 to winner
Remaining split amongst the rest of us at the table. |
