Blinds are 200/400 with 25 ante. The next level is in a few minutes to 400/800 & 50 ante. I’m second in chips at my table with about 13k. I have a tight image only showed down a few hands. Seat 1 is UTG and makes it 1,300. He’s been raising with any two face cards or better regardless of position and he’s the only player at the table who can bust me with about 17k in front of him. It folds around to a loose clueless player who will call with any two. He attempts to make the call but instead of putting out 1300 he puts out 4000. He tries to take his money back and just call but the dealer double checks with the floor then tells him the raise stands. It folds around to me in the SB and I have AKo. There’s 5k in the middle. Seat 1’s been playing loose aggressive but I think if I shove he’ll fold. I suspect that he’ll realize I have at least AK in this spot and won’t risk most of his stack. I also suspect that the idiot will call no matter what his hole cards are as he’s only folded about 3 hands in the two hours we’ve been playing up to this point. Seat 1 folds. Idiot calls for his remaining 5k. Seat one says he folded AQs and Idiot shows 6h6s. His hand holds up and I’m crippled to about 3k.
My thought process was;
This hand’s good against both their ranges most of the time. The $ that was put the in middle was a mistake. This idiot has called players all-in’s with J high. I’m not going to fold so I may as well stay aggressive. Do I want to put my stack at risk against the only player who can bust me after he raised UTG? Will Seat 1 fold if I shove? I recalled the previous hands seat 1 played and felt he had a big A rather than a pair. That 6k in the middle looks juicy. When the next level hits I’ll only have 10m in checks. I’m going for the win, not a 10th place finish.
I busted out soon after the break but I don’t think my play was TOO bad.
What would you have done?
