this has to be the worst possible situation for me, running into a higher straight when i had the high end of it as well,
$20 buy-in cash game, with .10/.20 blinds, for once, there were no calling stations, but just solid players playing in a cheap game, i had never been in a game like that before, anyways here is what happened
i am on the button and i have Kh,9h table folded around to me, so i came in for a small raise, about $.75, standard raise at the table all night had been $1.50, small blind folds and bb calls,
flop was Q J 4 rainbow, i checked behind the bb and the turn came 10c, i got a free look and caught the inside straight, when the bb bet at that card of about $8, i was just thinking what a complete overbet of the pot, considering there was only abt $2 at this time in the pot, well i made a smooth call thinking there is now way my hand is beat, i mean i had the 2nd nuts for this hand, the river brought a blank, and again he fired with a $10 bet, i had $14 left before this bet, so i moved all-in, he quickly called, and i said i have the straight with K9, he says i got it too with AK, i was in disbelief, after the game was over i asked him abt his strategy for his betting, it was taken straight out of Rounders. He said he was overbetting the pot to make it look like a bluff hoping since i came in for a small raise on the button, that i hit the Q or 2 pair with QJ, i thought abt that and thought it was a pretty good strategy, i watched this player take down abt $150 of our $200 pot that night so i give credit to him
i was sure my hand was good, but thats poker and luckily i was able to rebound back in my re-buy to break even for the night but that hand definitely stuck out for me
