I was reading a situation on the Thunder Keller forums, and I wanted to get your opinion. What intrigues me is that betting patters give away a lot and at the same time they only give away so much.
There are four "moves" in poker in order of base profitability. Folding, checking, betting, or raising. Within those there are "sub-moves" of check-folding and check-raising.
Within betting there are "intentions" such as: Betting for information, Continuation Betting, Betting for Protection, and variances of those.
So it's safe to say that within those inital four moves there are thousands of options that any of these moves could mean, based on the skill of the player, and their intentions withing that individual game. Someone professional like Negranu has shown a propensity for insane play, which could be concieved as "bad" play.
Why am I asking? I would like to see, what you think the capabilities are of someone being able to "stand" truly agressive play. I don't mean the agression of half pot bets, I mean the true agression of Brunson's system. Poker hasn't really changed, the agressors are still agressive, and the weaker players are not. I liked the half and 3/4 pot bets because they negate pot odds for good players, but I am realizing that there are fewer good players out there than I initially thought. I would estimate less than 15% of the players (including me) that visit Choctaw are what I would call about average. That being said that means that they are playing weaker hands than they would prefer and missing more often than not.
So if you generated a table image that really said "If you raise me, we're going to get it all in the middle" would that still be considered a profitable way to play? I considered myself agressive, but after my last visit to Choctaw I realized that there is no way that I can really call myself that if I am afraid to lose the money I bring.
I wanted to ask the gener opinion of the forum. Is a hyper agressive (get your money in when you have the best of it) the best way to play?
This is what happens when I am home with nothing to do.
