So, I've been watching the PPT, and I'm getting into it, mostly because I can watch some real, deep-stack poker, rather than those all-in festivals that I'm used to seeing on other shows. And one of the announcers -- I think it is Matt Corboy, or something like that -- it isn't Mark Seif -- he's in love with this move:
Folded around to someone in LP who raises to 3x the BB. (Stealing?)
BB re-raises with a marginal hand like A-3 suited or pocket sixes.
The thinking does make some sense. You don't want to just call, and see a flop out of position with a marginal, and possibly dominated hand. And you want to give him a chance to fold preflop if he's on a steal with rags, and another chance to fold when you make a continuation bet after the flop.
My question is this: Obviously, this is a move that is being made in a tournament, against pros. But what about cash games at the $1/2 and $2/5 level? For you guys who play in these games live, what are your thoughts on the subject of re-raising out of position with a marginal hand? Is it a good chance to take down a small pot with a bit of well-timed aggression, or a tournament move that will lead to cash-game disaster? Enquiring minds want to know.
