Re: Betting for information out of position

Re: Betting for information out of position

[quote:f43cdecf2c="omni"]First I know John will call me he won’t buy that I hit anything better then top pair weak kicker, which is what I have. [/quote:f43cdecf2c]

This is the part of your reasoning that I don't like. A bet is a nebulous bit of information. NO hand can ever be reasoned out like this. All your bet means is "I'm strong".

It's up to John to put you on any number of hands when you call with pot odds of x:y

pocket pairs
high cards
AT, A7, A4
T7, T4, 74 <-- pretty unlikely
suited connectors
complete bull crap <-- always about 5-10%

That is probably what is going through his head! NOBODY can put people on hands preflop with a raise and a call! Not possible. Putting the young gambler on hands that early was another proto-mistake. Your smooth call was deceptive, and you have to give yourself credit for that.

Sounds like you were starstruck by Jim's stack a bit, and weakened up. I'd pull out one of my 10,000 stories of me doing the same thing, but hey, it's your thread.
