OK so my 1/2 NL session yesterday went much better then the last few. I took some pointers from the tread last week on my poor play. My plan for the day was to have a better focus on the different players styles, make better laydowns, and vary my preflop raises a bit.
About an hour into the session that brings us to the hand in question.
I’m UTG +1 and get dealt AdAc, UTG limps, I have about $250 in chips, it’s early, full table, most everyone at the table has around $200 in chips. In keeping with my strategy for the day, instead of my usual $15 - $20 raise in this spot I just make it $7 to go (possible mistake #1).
I get about 5 callers. The flop is Jc9h2h. UTG checks. I make it $25, next guy folds, middle position guy calls, (I don’t know this guy, it was pretty early in the session, he was mid-twenties, seemed like a nice guy talked a lot, he had won a few pots, had not raised preflop at all, but had called a few raised pots, and had not showed down any hands). Everyone else folded.
At this point here are the range of hands I put him on, some type of flush or straight draw, maybe Q10, but not Q10 hearts, possibly a weak Jack, but unlikely JK or JA.
Turn is Js.
I’m 1st to act and decide I really need to know where I’m at I decide to check and check raise to a weak bet and fold to a big bet. (Possible mistake #2. I’d like to hear some thoughts on this, I’m not so sure about this play).
Anyway he bets out $25, I make it $85. He thinks for a while and just calls.
River is 2c. I check. He bets $50. He’s bet seemed really weird to me. I though for a few then mucked my aces up. (I had made a decision to show my aces on this hand no matter what happened)
The good news is I made a solid comeback, ended up busting that guy on two big hands and ended the day up a little over $700 on a 4 hour session. I felt overall my play was much improved from the last few sessions and other then one hand that I donked off $100 on a really stupid play. I was pretty happy with my play, but again this hand I’m not too sure about.
