Cold Cards, Lumpy Seats, and Tournament Misery
Simple Truth: Cards run they run, when they don't...it hurts! No matter how good you think you are or how good you ACTUALLY are (LOL), bottom line is, its tuff to play garbage hands skillfully. Sure you'll bluff a hand or two, (Watch Matusow a master bluffer) but odds are you are not going to fare well at the felt if the cards are cold.
In a cash game we can change tables, perhaps trade in your lumpy seat for a cozier one, but in a tournament you are locked in your seat until the powers that be move you. And unless Lady Luck shines down from the heavens, you'll need to strap your helmet, dig in, and hunker down for the long haul ahead. (Tighten Up, Push In, and hope for the best!)
To make matters worse people will pick on every weak stab you take at a pot, because all you have are weak stabs in your arsenal to play with.
(Don't heckel back, go to www.bigstack.com and pull up their tourney stats like I did...Humbles them fast! Plus they cant figure out why you know so much.) ;)
I grinded out a 119 person 7-Card Stud tourney last night...GRUELING to say the least! The only two decent hands I had, (To include rolled up trips, I figured finally a hand!) got bettered. I grinded it out to hit 32nd, amazing considering the wall that sat in front of me the whole time.
Today at a $10 Hold 'em Sit & Go, 2nd hand I had AK and a guy goes ALL-IN!, I call and I am pleased to see he has Ah 8h, Flop comes H H H followed by the turn H, 6-1 odds Against him making his hand (about 15% of the time) and there it is! Too Funny, I'm a Railbird, and he doubles up!
Who said poker isn't fun?
That's my two cents, What do you think?
May your cards be RED HOT, and your chairs COZY next time you sit down.
See You at the Tables! |
