Was it the right move?

Was it the right move?

I am going to play out a hand for you guys and I would like your opinion as to whether this was a well thought out play or a risky move that should be avoided in the future.

I was playing at a $1-2 NL table with approximately 7-9 players throughout the night. During the evening I had watched a young kid sit down who must have learned the game of poker from a group of young players because he was all about action and moving his chips in the middle of the pot. During about an hour I had watched him drop about $250 in three seperate $100 buy-ins (leaving himself about $50 of the third one).

He increased his chipstack when he pushed all in on the flop (equating to about $40) when the pot was only at $20 and his opponent folded. He flipped up his cards and showed a well-executed bluff. Okay, put that in the rolodex.

About two orbits later he does the same play. After raising pre-flop he way overbets the pot by moving all in with nothing and gets called. He spikes one of his overs on the river and not quite doubles up (busting the other player).

Not but two hands later he now has about $85 in front of him. I am sitting on $120 after suffering some dry spells of bad cards and not getting much to work with on the few playable hands I am dealt.
I am dealt 10-7 of diamonds and limp in for the $2. The aggressive Gus to my left makes it $10 to go. It folds around to me and I decide to try and hit a favorable flop against him.
The flop comes a 7-high rainbow. I now have top pair with a mediocre kicker. I check, which in hindsight I regret but at the time I had a good feeling about how he was playing and figured I could let him give me some information. Sure enough he complies. He moves all in for $75. I practically insta-call and he is shocked, shocked I say to see 10-7. He shows Q-J offsuit and doesn't catch up. I bust him and he is disgusted with my poor call pre-flop and post-flop.

What do you guys think? Should I have not risked two-thirds of my stack on a risky situation like this even though I was almost positive he only had two overs?
