Re: Schools of Thought playing AK preflop?

Re: Schools of Thought playing AK preflop?

Here are my answers to your questions. Keep in mind these are typed up as quickly as possible and can't express every possible aspect of each situation. Depending on certain events my play might change from what I have written.

[quote:e95333e56b="Zero"]Does it matter if its tournament play or cash game.[/quote:e95333e56b]
Absolutely it matters between these two formats. In my opinion, I think every single hand differs between tournament play and cash game play. Maybe not a big difference for J-4 offsuit and others like this one, but there is still going to be a difference in the way I play it every once in a while (the difference being I will play more hands in a cash game than I will in a tournament).

[quote:e95333e56b="Zero"]UTG[/quote:e95333e56b]
When under the gun I will raise with A-K almost every time. It might be once in a hundred hands that I don’t. The raise amount depends on amount of people, ability of players, stack sizes, amount of the blinds, etc. If I get re-raised from a tight player then I am most likely letting it go but you have to be a rock for that to happen. A loose player will get some action from me and I will see what develops later in the hand.
A call or two from players will see a continuation bet on the flop whether I improve or not.

[quote:e95333e56b="Zero"]Blinds[/quote:e95333e56b]
If I am in the small blind I will usually raise with A-K. I want to thin the field and take control of the hand. Again, a continuation bet will occur no matter what comes on the flop.
If I am in the big blind I will usually check it. I like to disguise my big blind hands unless I am holding Aces, Kings or Queens.
If I am playing in a tournament and it is raised I will put in a re-raise to show I am not jacking around. Being out of position puts me at a disadvantage and I don’t want to get taken advantage of by a late-position player. If it is a cash game I will usually just call, with an occasional re-raise.

[quote:e95333e56b="Zero"]Late Postion with multiple limpers[/quote:e95333e56b]
I will put in a raise of about five times the big blind. I want to thin the field and take control of the hand. Callers again will see a continuation bet 19 out of 20 times. Occasionally I will just limp in to disguise the hand, but I have to hit something to keep going and I will tread a little more lightly than if I had raised.

[quote:e95333e56b="Zero"]Mid Position[/quote:e95333e56b]
I will usually raise if it hasn’t already been raised. I will re-raise sometimes in a tournament. Usually just call in a cash game but sometimes re-raise. I will occasionally just call in middle position and see what develops.
